Paradigm Participates in LLS’s Light the Night Walk

New ImageMinneapolis, MN:  Sunday was a beautiful autumn evening for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk at Target Field Downtown Minneapolis.  Paradigm Court Reporting & Captioning walked with the “Legal Strides For A Cure” team comprised of four local, legal organizations: Women in e-Discovery (WiE), National Association of Legal Professionals (NALS), Minnesota Association of Litigation Support Professionals (MALSP), and Minnesota Paralegal Association (MPA).

Each walker carried a balloon – white for survivors, gold if you’ve lost someone to leukemia or lymphoma, and red as a supporter of the cause.  Paradigmers Jan Ballman and Angie Ballman Punton carried gold balloons in loving memory of Richard Sekevitch.

Hall of Famer Rod Carew led the ceremonial walk around Target Field with hundreds of supporters and walkers in toe.   The Twins Great lost a daughter to leukemia 18 years ago, and the LLS is an organization very close to his family’s heart.  The final lap of the walk consisted of white balloons only – fighters and survivors of the disease.  They received a standing ovation as they made their way around the field.

The Light the Night fundraiser has raised millions of dollars to fund cancer research and treatments for blood cancers.  There are over 200 events of its kinds each year benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  When the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was formed in 1949, blood cancer was almost always fatal.  Thanks in part to innovative research funded by LLS and Light the Night Walk events, survival rates have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled for blood cancer patients.
