02-25 Barnes LeadershipEdina, MN:  Paradigm Court Reporting & Captioning was proud to have representatives in attendance for Barnes & Thornburg’s 3rd Annual Women in Leadership: Exploring Pathways Event at the Edina Country Club on February 25th.  Nearly 150 women were present for the half-day conference that featured Great Clips CEO Rhoda Olsen who shared candid experiences of her journey to the top.  Business executive, visionary, relationship builder, mother, wife, grandmother, and cancer survivor all describe Ms. Olsen.  She emphasized that the ever-elusive work-life balance is not always attainable, and that listening is the most valuable and underrated executive skill.

Following the keynote, the inaugural Nancy A. Sullivan Community Leadership Award was presented to Becky Roloff, President and CEO of the YWCA of Minneapolis.  The award honors Barnes & Thornburg attorney, Nancy Sullivan, who passed away in the summer of 2013.

The afternoon concluded with a Q&A session with a panel of women consisting of Laura Gillund, Vice President of Human Resources and Professional Development at Cardiovascular Systems; Joanne Jirik Mullen, Senior Employment Counsel at Ecolab; Stephanie Shimp, Co-Owner and Senior Vice President of Marketing at Blue Plate Restaurant Company; and the Honorable Wilhelmina Wright, Associate Justice at Minnesota’s Supreme Court.  Each panelist shared their insights as to what motivates them, how to deal with being outside your comfort zone, and times in their career that they’ve “leaned in” and “leaned out.”

A special thanks to our hosts, the women of Barnes & Thornburg, for an inspired afternoon!
