Minneapolis, MN: Paradigm Court Reporting & Captioning was pleased to donate CART services, and walk in the 3rd Annual Minneapolis Walk4Hearing at Lake Calhoun on Saturday, September 28th benefiting the Hearing Loss Association of America. While the weather didn’t want to cooperate, there were plenty of supporters who braved the rain and completed the 5K walk around the beautiful lake with scenic views of Downtown Minneapolis.
According to the HLAA Website, the status of hearing loss in the US is as follows:
- 48 million Americans have some form of hearing loss
- 26 million Americans have noise-induced hearing loss that could have been prevented
- 2 to 3 out of every 1,000 children are born deaf or with a hearing loss
- 60 percent of the people with hearing loss are either in the work force or in educational settings
These walks are held across the United States in order to create awareness and provide education for hearing loss in America. Since the first event in 2006, the HLAA has raised over $5 million that help fund programs and services for people with hearing loss. The HLAA’s mission is “to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss by providing education, advocacy and support.”
